Meetings in Paris
The exhibition MEETINGS IN PARIS is dedicated to a trip of a group of Bulgarian artists to the world capital of art in the 1930s and the influence of European modernity on their work.
The exhibition provides an opportunity for future research, and the reason for it is an unpublished manuscript of Vaska Emanuilova where she described her journey and the troubles she went through when she returned to Bulgaria. There are 44 works (sculptures, drawings and paintings) by authors who lived in Paris in the 1930s or connected with the "Parisian spirit" - Nenko Balkanski, Georgi Popov (John), Donka Konstantinova, Iliya Beshkov. Of particular interest is a hitherto unseen series of drawings, illustrations by Iliya Beshkov to the book Paris, a Novel-Chronicle by Todor Genov. Along with other works of Vaska Emanuilova from the Gallery's as well as private collections, which have not been shown so far, and pages from notebooks where she wrote about her impressions of the Parisian museums are also included.
