146 YEARS SINCE THE HANGING OF VASIL LEVSKI - THE APOSTLE OF FREEDOM

Vasil Ivanov Kunchev (1837 - 1873) is the greatest Bulgarian hero, ideologist and organizer of the Bulgarian National Revolution. On February 19, 2018 the entire Bulgarian nation will honor the memory of the Apostle of Freedom and the 146th anniversary of his death. Traditionally, the ceremony takes place at 18.00 o’clock in Sofia, in front of the monument to Vasil Levski which is erected on the site of his hanging. Before that, at 17.00 o’clock, a memorial service is held in St. Sophia Church - Levski passed by this temple on the way to the gallows. It accommodates thousands of Bulgarians - both young and old, who want to bow down before his feat. The procession is impressive and reaches the monument to the Apostle. Despite the cold weather, this monument is embraced by people’s love as well as by thousands of flowers and dozens of wreaths.
