Come with us on the first Pilgrimage for 2019 to the Lozen Monastery of St. Spas on June 6

On June 6 - Ascension of Jesus, Sofia Municipality, the Faculty of Theology at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski and the Sofia Holy Bishopric invite you to the first pilgrimage for 2019 to Lozen Monastery of St. Spas. The Church has been celebrating this feast since IV – V century. Its date changes every year. The pilgrimage starts at 7:30 am from Saint George Church in the village of Dolni Lozen. After a prayer, the pilgrims set off on foot to the Monastery of St. Spas. People follow an ancient icon of the Ascension carried by the pilgrims. The path to the holy cloister is almost 5 km. long and passes through a picturesque and dense oak forest. It takes an hour and a half to reach the Monastery and people of all ages can take part in the pilgrimage.

People attend a Divine Liturgy and a blessing of water in the temple of the monastery. You can see the wonderful murals of the temple and the riches of the monastery - relics of St. Simeon Samokovsky, St. Panteleimon, St. Haralampy, Saints Cosmas and Damian, St. Stephen and a particle of the cross of the Lord ...
