On September 17, when the Eastern Orthodox Church commemorates the holy martyrs Faith, Hope and Love and their mother Sophia, the Bulgarian capital celebrates its own holiday. At 1:30 pm in front of Saint Sophia Basilica an official ceremony of raising the flag of Sofia as well as an Orthodox ceremony will be held. The festivities will continue with a fashion show and a multi-genre dance performance for the Day of Sofia in Zaimov Park at 5 pm. At 7 pm an awards ceremony for outstanding achievements in the field of culture will be held in Ivan Vazov National Theatre. At 8:30 pm in Alexander I Square, an audio-visual performance and a 3D mapping will be held in honor of the 140th anniversary of the proclamation of Sofia as Capital of Bulgaria. It will present metaphorically the history of the city through various abstract visual and musical messages with the help of young, popular and street artists of different genres and styles.
