Sofia Municipality Held the Annual Awards for Outstanding Achievements in the Field of Culture

At an official ceremony on the Day of Sofia - September 17, Sofia Municipality presented the annual awards for outstanding cultural achievements. It took place at Ivan Vazov National Theater and was attended by prominent writers, actors, filmmakers, directors, singers, dancers, artists, architects and authors - all creators of the contemporary cultural life who have turned Sofia into a spiritual city.

Awards and Winners:

For LITERATURE – Ivan Teofilov for the book The Voice of Silence

For THEATRE - Stefan Mavrodiev for his roles as Mr. Willis in Children of the Moon by Michael Weller (directed by M. Kiselov) and Feuerbach in "I, Feuerbach" by Tankred Dorst (directed by Vl. Lutskanov)

For MUSIC – Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and Cantus Firmus Music Agency for the concert 120th Anniversary of the Birth of Pancho Vladigerov which opened the European Music Festival on March 21, 2019 in Bulgaria Hall

For VISUAL AND PLASTIC ARTS - Pavel Koychev for the exhibition The Garden of Grass presented at Rayko Alexiev Gallery

For FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY - Yana Uzunova for the photo exhibition Todor Slavchev - Photo Archive

For CINEMA – Master of Art Film Festival – 4th Edition, 2019

For ARCHITECTURE, PROTECTION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE AND AESTHETICIZATION OF THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT - Penyo Stolarov for the reconstruction of a building with a museum of the Boyana Church into a kindergarten.

For CRITICISM AND JOURNALISM IN THE FIELD OF CULTURE – Teodora Dimova for articles in the field of culture in different media

For DANCE ART - Arabesque Ballet, for the premiere performances The Bingo Project, The Nights, The Afternoon of a Faun, Opera Diva

For FOLKLORE STAGE ARTS – Nedyalko Nedyalkov, musician, for numerous concerts, the Balkan Nostalgia project and the CD albums GloBalKan Wonder Wheel and The Spirit of Bulgarian Traditions and others

For CONTEMPORARY PERFORMANCE AND MULTIGENRE ARTS - Venelin Shurelov for a retrospective exhibition at Credo Bonum Gallery.

The prestigious jury’s award, personally presented by the Mayor of Sofia Mrs. Fandakova, was bestowed to Milko Lazarov, director of the film AGA, which the National Film Council has selected as the Bulgarian nomination for a foreign language movie for the Academy Awards (the Oscars).

Winner of the Special Prize of Sofia for outstanding achievements and contribution to the national culture is Lili Ivanova.
