The "Building of the Year" award was given to Sofia Municipality and Metropolitan for large-scale investment and overall contribution to the implementation of the third line of the Sofia Metro. The award was presented for the new section of Line 3 and especially for the National Palace of Culture II Metro Station.
Line 3 is 8 km long and has 8 metro stations and connects Krasna Polyana and Poduyane. The National Palace of Culture II metro station was put into operation on August 26, 2020. The station is located in one of the most remarkable places in the capital - next to the park in front of the National Palace of Culture, west of the intersection of Vitosha Blvd. and Patriarch Evtimiy Blvd. It is one of the three stations of the Sofia metro, where there is a connection between the lines - in this case between L2 and L3. Due to the location of Line 3 under the tunnels of Line 2 in the area of the metro station, it is at a significant depth. The layout of the station, designed by architect Farid Paktiawal, is characterized by triangular white slats on one of the walls and with similar specially colored in "mustard" decorative slats on the other wall. In the western intermediate level, the attention of the visitors is drawn to a decorative panel with the image of one of our national heroes - the poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev. The author of the panel is Prof. Dr. Boyan Dobrev.
