Sofia Municipality and Sofia - European Capital of Sport Foundation organized this sports fest for the sixth consecutive winter. On Saturday, January 23, the Foundation's rich annual program of activities was launched. The Winter Fest is held on the occasion of the World Snow Day - a global initiative that aims to promote snow sports among children and teach them to love the mountains and the snow.
The strong wind in Vitosha failed to dampen the emotions of mountain lovers who gathered near Aleko hut to enjoy the many snow attractions, including a family sledding race at the first "sleigh zone" in Vitosha mountain, as well as a downhill mountain bike race. For the first time this year, a testing ground was created where it was demonstrated how to use avalanche equipment. The admiration of those present was won by the ski climbers, the competitors in the giant slalom, and the cross-country skiers. For the first time during this year's edition of the festival, outdoor lovers witnessed demonstrations of "wing skiing" – by skiing with "wings", skiers could use the wind and do impressive tricks.
The youngest enjoyed a fight with snowballs, making snow figures, fun games, and many other activities.
All activities of Vitosha Winter Fest 2021 were held in strict compliance with the health measures.
