Sofia has been declared one of the brunch capitals in the EU

Thursday, 07 July 2022

The reviews for restaurants serving this type of menu in the Bulgarian capital city are 8.81 out of 10 possible.

That's according to the latest research by USWITCH.com/Mortgages, which analyzed customer ratings of over 235,000 restaurants in every European capital to discover the best city for brunch this summer.

Sofia with the fifth highest rating in Europe

Our capital takes fifth place with a rating of 8.81 out of 10. Although it has only 522 restaurants - 88% less than Paris, France (4,401), brunch in the Bulgarian capital will cost you 21.20 euros, 21% cheaper than Paris.

Athens is the highest rated brunch in Europe

The Greek capital ranks first with an average rating of 8.88/10. With 1,136 restaurants to choose from, the average price of lunch in the ancient city averaged just €16.66 - the fifth cheapest of all the capitals analysed. That's just 24 cents more than lunch in Bratislava, Slovakia - Europe's cheapest brunch destination (average €16.42).

The capital of Croatia - Zagreb, is in second place with a rating of 8.85. Despite the high customer ratings, the average price in one of the brunch restaurants is the seventh highest in Europe - 32.48 euros. This is almost double (94%) the average price for lunch in Athens (€16.66).

The Mediterranean capital of Malta - Valletta, occupies the third position with an average rating of 8.83/10. Not only does it offer some of the best brunch spots on the continent, it's also the second highest rated European capital for vegetarian restaurants.

Lisbon, Portugal is in fourth place with a rating of 8.82. With 2,010 restaurants, brunch in the Portuguese capital is not only highly rated, but also relatively cheap, costing just €20.48 on average. This is 8% cheaper than the neighboring capital Madrid (Spain), where, however, 9% more restaurants are available (2,209).
