All children and their parents will have the opportunity to visit the History Museum of Sofia for free. In the period September 6 - 17, 2023, those interested will be able to get a ticket to the museum from the regional administration in whose territory they live.
The initiative is organized by the Committee for Children, Youth and Sports in the Metropolitan City Council. The Regional History Museum, until recently known as the History Museum of Sofia, was established in 1928 as part of a Municipal Cultural Institution, including a museum, library, archive, and gallery. In 1952, the Museum was separated as independent, but did not have a permanent exhibition for decades. It was only on September 17, 2015 that the Museum's permanent exhibition was officially opened in the building of the former Central Mineral Bath.
The cultural values that are stored in the funds of the History Museum of Sofia are over 120,000 units, including the scientific library and photo archive, with 34,611 values invested in the main fund, and 27,647 objects in the scientific auxiliary fund. The museum has three branches - Hagia Sophia, Exposition for National Reconciliation, Tomb of Prince Alexander I.
