Words, Images, Places - 140 years since the proclamation of Sofia as Capital of Bulgaria

The exposition includes works presenting the city from the end of the 19th century to present day. In addition to the paintings, there will also be postcards, photos and texts where you can read the impressions of Bulgarian and foreign travelers, diplomats and intellectuals regarding the changes and development of the city over the years - architectural, social, political events and people's participation in them.

“The Manifesting ideology 1944-1989”

Regional History Museum – Sofia presents “The Manifesting ideology 1944-1989”. The exhibition is to open its doors on November 7, 2019 and will run until March 31, 2020. It focuses on the years between 1944 – 1989 in Bulgaria. While using historical objects and artifacts the historical review analyzes the above mentioned time period.
Regional History Museum – Sofia brought the exhibition to life in partnership with: Bulgarian National History Museum, Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at Bulgarian Academy of Science, Museum of Socialist Art and Bulgarian National Film Archive.

“The Scars of War: The Lost Architectural Heritage of Sofia”

From November 14, 2019, this is date of the first massive bombing of Sofia during World War II back in 1943, to April 30, 2020, at The National History Museum the immersive space “The Scars of War: The Lost Architectural Heritage of Sofia” will be opened for visitors.
“The Scars of War: The Lost Architectural Heritage of Sofia” was brought to life in partnership with the Bulgarian National Film Archives, and funded by the “Culture” programme of Sofia Municipality.

Sofia Arsenal – Museum of Contemporary Art, 2 Cherni Vrah Blvd.
The exhibition includes works by artists of Bulgarian origin who create in the Nordic countries and are influenced in one way or another by the culture of that region. The purpose is not to show a comprehensive list of artists living there, but rather to present a constellation of different concepts, themes, media and approaches that excite the Bulgarian artists, touched by the magic of the North.
The project is organized by the ‘So Close, So Far’ Non-profit Organization, in partnership with Sofia Arsenal – Museum of Contemporary Art, State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, and with the financial support of the Culture Programme of Sofia Municipality.

The Book Fair was brought to life in partnership with: Sofia University, National Palace of Culture, French culture institute. International Organization of La Francophonie, Swiss embassy in Bulgaria.

Christmas Trees of Talent 2020

Stoyan Kambarev Foundation in partnership with Sofia Municipality.
Part of the campaign for the decoration of Sofia for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The Christmas trees will be placed in front of the National Palace of Culture in the period 01.12.2019 - 15.01.2020.
The Christmas concert will be held on 01.12.2019.
The musical talents of Stoyan Kambarev Foundation will be the culmination of Sofia Municipality’s traditional concert and will close it with a spectacular Christmas show after the lighting of the Christmas tree by the Mayor of Sofia.
Before the show, gifts and vouchers will be given to the families in need and the host will explain the idea of the project. Then a photo of the families, children and talents of Stoyan Kambarev Foundation together with the Mayor of Sofia and the representatives of the companies participating in the project will be taken.
The relocation and afforestation will be on January 20 and will be specified later on.

Sofia International Literary Festival

Sofia International Literary Festival is the biggest and most prestigious event for literature in Bulgaria.
The Forum brings together Bulgarian and international authors and provides an opportunity for meetings between the literatures, languages and cultures of different countries.
Each year, the Festival focuses on literature from a different geographic region or language.
Authors from the Balkans, Scandinavia, the Iberian Peninsula, the Visegrad Four, the German-speaking world are presented.
The focus in 2019 will be on French literature and culture.
Sofia International Literary Festival and the International Book Fair are organized by the Bulgarian Book Association with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria and Sofia Municipality.
The event is part of the Cultural Event Calendar of Sofia Municipality for 2019.

MASHA JIVKOVA-UZUNOVA (1903–1986) - Wife, model and painter

2019 marked the 120 years’ anniversary of the birth of Dechko Uzunov, for which occasion Dechko Uzunov Gallery presents one of the most important figures in the life of the artist – Masha Zhivkova-Uzunova, a wife, model and an artist. The exhibition highlights some of her finest works between 1920 and 1943, artwork of Dechko Uzunov with her at the main role, as well as some documentary photos of their life together.

One of the most popular Bulgarian folklore choirs - Vanya Moneva Female Choir with conductor Vanya Moneva will celebrate their 25th anniversary with a special concert, which is part of the program of the New Year Music Festival. A special guest of the event will be Maria Ilieva, who will take part in the folklore part of the concert and perform songs by the composer Filip Kutev. The audience will hear some of the choir’s most emblematic songs as well as some new ones.

Roby Lakatos & Ensemble

Roby Lakatos, The Violin King, with his first concert in Bulgaria.

An explosive mix of classic, jazz, romance, film music and csárdás is awaiting the audience.
Roby Lakatos will be the event of the year for crossover music fans. He has been applauded in some of the largest halls in the world – the Concertgebouw, Carnegie Hall, Suntory Hall, the Sydney Opera House and has been dubbed by critics as "The fastest-fingered fiddler in the world”.
Lakatos will perform in Hall 1 with his colorful ensemble, and each of his musicians is star of his instrument. Classic FM Radio Orchestra will accompany them on the stage.
