The Scars of War: The Lost Architectural Heritage of Sofia

The National History Museum presents immersive space “The Scars of War: The Lost Architectural Heritage of Sofia”. The exhibition will run until end of December.

With sensory impulses, authentic video footage, photo archives and emblematic exhibits, the visitor will be “immersed” in the period before and during the bombings, will wander through the calm and beautiful pre-war Sofia, will witness the devastating blow that war inflicted on the city and will experience the fate of the hundreds people who lost their homes. The memories of eyewitnesses, recreated by famous Bulgarian actors will complete the narrative about some of the most dramatic days of the Bulgarian capital.

The project “The Scars of War: The Lost Architectural Heritage of Sofia” was brought to life in partnership with the Bulgarian National Film Archives, and funded by the “Culture” program of Sofia Municipality.

The exhibition presents the many ways that the “Pathways to the table” have evolved in Bulgaria through time. The exhibition consists of the following thematic collections: Sheep and goat breeding, Horticulture, Apiculture, and etc. With the current exhibition presents, the National Ethnographic Museum the traditional way of life and culture of Bulgarian nation. Pathways to the table will run until September 30, 2021.

Тhe exhibition “Sofia – Capital of Unified Bulgaria” focuses on the role of Sofia as epicentre for the decisions which rendered the dream for the unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia possible. The exhibition narrative highlights the act of the Unification and its military defence; the role of diplomacy and of the efforts of the institutions in Sofia; the growth of the town into a capital of unified Bulgaria – a central of all state institutions and a unifying heart for the Bulgarians in the Principality of Bulgaria and in Eastern Rumelia. The exhibition presents exhibits – symbols of the dream for unification. Among them are regulation colours and volunteerunits’ banners, under the folds of which Bulgarians defended at once the cause of the Unification, and Sofia – Serbian forces’ immediate objective.

Personal belongings of Prince Alexander I, of the Speaker of the National Assembly Stefan Stambolov, of the Prime Minister Petko Karavelov, of the Minister of Justice Vasil Radoslavov, of the Minister of War Captain Konstantin Nikiforov, and others, frame Sofia’s efforts towards a swift administrative and legislative integration and towards the transformation of the capital into a centre of Unified Bulgaria.

A specially developed touch-screen application rediscovers Sofia’s place in the events from 135 years ago, focusing on the role of institutions, public buildings, and private homes of the capital’s urban environment.

The exhibition is realized in partnership with the Regional History Museum – Sofia, Directorate of Museums– Koprivshtitsa, and Stefan Noykov Foundation, within the “Sofia – Capital of Unified Bulgaria” project, funded by the “Culture” programme of Sofia Municipality.

The National Archaeological Institute with Museum organizes the temporary exhibition “Bulgarian Archaeology”. The exhibition presents the most interesting and impressive discoveries and investigations from the last active archaeological season.

The exhibition “Bulgarian Archaeology 2020” will be on display in the Central Hall of the National Archaeological Museum from 12 February until 02 May 2021.

Sofia City Art Gallery presents the exhibition Andrey Daniel. Between two eras

Andrey Daniel was himself as one of the leading figures in art pushing Bulgarian painting forward at the close of the 20th and the turn of the 21st centuries. The exhibition and the album that goes with it are the outcome of research and selection of works from government-owned and private collections throughout the country and abroad. Out of the more than 500 paintings researched and listed in the album, visitors will be able to see more than 160, which will be on display on both of the gallery’s levels. The exhibition features some of the artist’s earliest works, works created in the 1980’s, award-winning works, works that have not been exhibited in the capital city in the past 30 years, as well as works showcasing distinguished cycles and themes emblematic of Andrey Daniel’s art that place him among the most prominent Bulgarian artists of the last four decades.

The Faces of Literary Journal

Open-air gallery in front of Ivan Vazov National Theater
he exhibition The Faces of LJ will be opened on April 12 at 6 pm in the open-air gallery in the City Garden. Mihail Nedelchev, Georgi Lozanov, Francesca Zemyarska, Joanna Neykova and Lilia Trifonova will take part in the opening. The exhibition includes 26 photographs of important authors and friends of the newspaper - Miglena Nikolchina, Virginia Zaharieva, Georgi Gospodinov, Mirela Ivanova, Mihail Nedelchev, Vladimir Zarev, Daria Karapetkova, Mitko Novkov, Georgi Tenev, Ivan Hristov, Yanitsa Radeva, Todorka Mineva, Alexander Baytoshev, Kaloyan Pramatarov, as well as the editors of the newspaper. You can visit the exhibition until April 25, 2021.

Pancho Vladigerov House Museum
In 2021 Pancho Vladigerov House Museum in cooperation with Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music, the National Academy of Arts and the Sofia Philharmonic will present a new initiative, combining musical and visual art in an original and unique way. The first concert of the program will take place on April 10 in Bulgaria Chamber Hall at 7pm and will introduce listeners to the essence of the conceptual space of SYN (es) THESIS. An important part of the performances will be the projection of paintings of 23 students from the National Academy of Arts. The SYN (es) THESIS project is realized with the support of Sofia Municipality.

Fotofabrika Festival Nature as a Refuge

For its annual outdoor exhibition, the Fotofabrika Festival brings together the photographers Dimitar Karanikolov, Vlado Donkov and Veselin Atanasov - authors who see nature as a primary source of energy and strength. The collection Nature as a Refuge, displayed on the fence of the Central Military Club in Sofia, is the first exhibition in this place. With the shots of these three Bulgarian photographers, the organizers celebrate Earth Day - April 22.
Vernissage: April 22 (Thursday), from 6pm to 8pm (in compliance with all anti-epidemic measures)
Nature as a refuge is in the program of the 8th edition of Fotofabrika Festival (PhotoFactory Festival) - part of the Cultural Events Calendar of Sofia Municipality for 2021.
