Find Your Way
Getting to LUNAR is straightforward. The Largo complex sits right in the center of the city, directly connected to Sofia’s public transport network. The easiest route is the metro – get off at Serdika Station, which opens right onto the illuminated square. If you arrive in Sofia by plane, Metro Line 4 takes you directly from Sofia Airport (Terminal 2) to Serdika in about 30 minutes.
You don’t need to buy physical tickets or figure out complicated fare cards. Sofia uses a simple Tap & Go system. Just tap your contactless bank card or phone on the blue validators at metro turnstiles or in the buses and trams. A single journey costs €0.80. If you tap three or more times in one day, the system automatically caps your spending at €2.00, which gives you an unlimited day pass.
Sofia by Day
There is plenty to do in the city during the day before LUNAR: The Lights of Sofia. See the main landmarks like the gold-domed Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Saint Sofia Church and the ancient St. George Rotunda, which sits inside a courtyard right near the Largo. You can check out the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, walk through the underground Roman ruins at Serdika, join a communist history walking tour, or grab a bite nearby.
If you want to explore cool places beyond the city, head up Vitosha Mountain for fresh air, forests and views, visit the thermal springs in Bankya or get on a kayak, paddleboard or pedal boats at Pancharevo Lake.
September 17th is also Sofia Day, so you will find local street performances, open-air events, and cultural exhibitions happening around town throughout the afternoon.
Sofia by Night
Before the immersive show lights up at 20:00, kick off your evening with a good meal in the city center. You can sit down for dinner at a local restaurant, stop by a local wine bar for a glass of Bulgarian wine or grab a gelato while walking through the pedestrian streets and parks.
Once the projections finish at 23:00, the night is far from over. Bars and music venues nearby stay open until late, making it easy to head straight into the local bar scene. Whether you want to sip cocktails in an open-air garden, grab a craft beer, or enjoy great music and social atmosphere at a central bar, Sofia offers plenty of options to keep your night going.
