Transfiguration of Jesus – August 6

On August 6, the Orthodox Church celebrates one of the oldest Christian feasts - the Transfiguration of Jesus. On this day, Jesus and three of his apostles - Peter, James and John (symbols of three important virtues – faith, hope and love) climbed Mount Tabor, Palestine where in front of his three disciples Jesus presented himself as God – with face shining like a sun and dressed in white clothes.

According to folk tales, on the eve of Transfiguration the sky opens and God himself appears. The ones who manage to see him will be happy and their dreams will come true. On this day, laymen wear shiny white clothes in honor of the feast. Tradition has it that fruit is sanctified on this day.

It is believed that on the Transfiguration of Jesus the weather starts to change as summer is coming to an end and autumn is on its way.
