Babinden (Day of the midwife)
Babinden is one of the greatest female folk festivals dedicated to the old midwives - the women who help with childbirth and to the young brides and women who have given birth. Rituals throughout the day are primarily connected to the desire to pay homage and respect to the elderly women who have helped with childbirth. The holiday has pagan origins but it has been preserved in Christianity. It was also extremely honored during the Revival period. In 1951 January 8 was declared Day of Intra-natal Care and the obstetricians and gynecologists are honored.
