Three Holy Hierarchs (Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom); St Peter - Tsar of the Bulgarians

Several saints, who played a crucial role in shaping the Christian doctrine, are commemorated on January 30 - the Three Holy Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom. All theological departments and religious academies in the Orthodox world celebrate on January 30. Tsar Peter - the longest ruling Bulgarian monarch and saint, who lived in the time of the First Bulgarian Kingdom, is also commemorated on this day. He and Saint John of Rila are considered to be the greatest Bulgarian saints.
