Sofia – European Capital of Sport Portrayed on a Stamp

On February 20, at a special ceremony, Sofia History Museum validated a post stamp dedicated to the initiative Sofia – European Capital of Sport.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Sofia Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova, the Deputy Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Todor Chobanov, the Deputy Mayor Doncho Barbalov, the chairman of Sofia Municipal Council Elen Gerdzhikov, a lot of philatelists, journalists and the legends of the Bulgarian sport Tanya Bogomilova, Yordanka Blagoeva, Vanya Gesheva, Evgenia Radanova, Zdravka Yordanova and others.

The graphic designer Valentin Zinkov designed the stamp. It has a nominal value of BGN 1.5, measures 55mm X 25 mm and portrays the Statue of Sophia and a group of running athletes. The colors are predominantly different shades of blue, similar to those used in the campaign.
