At present Sofia is the host of important forums connected with the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. During a meeting of the Ministers of Tourism from the Member States of the EU that took place on February 13 in Sofia, the Bulgarian Minister of Tourism suggested the creation of a map of the 100 Tourist Sites in Europe on the example of the map of the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria. Thus, Sofia will leave a small trace in the European marketing – the map will be called Sofia’s Map of the 100 Tourist Sites in Europe and will rely on the Bulgarian experience in popularizing national sites. It will include UNESCO sites and many EU countries have already stated their support for its creation.
In order to attract more tourists from China and other remote markets, possibilities for common Balkan routes were also discussed at the forum. Bulgaria is exploring the possibility of establishing a direct air route between Sofia and Beijing.
