Innovative Decisions and Green Policies are a Priority in Sofia’s Development

The Bulgarian capital follows the first in the country municipal strategy for intelligent specialization, hosts festivals such as Webit and Innovation Explorer, and this summer the first Digital Assembly will be held in Sofia. The establishment of a center of the European Institute of Innovation & Technology will create a lot of opportunities for the city as well.

These policies supplement the policy of stimulating the growth of green Sofia greatly supported by the local people. The New Forest of Sofia Project of Sofia Municipality that aims to transform abandoned municipal areas in close proximity to Sofia into new green terrains was initiated in the autumn of 2017 when 12,000 trees (wattles, lindens and Austrian oaks) were planted. In April 2018 hundreds of volunteers planted 4,000 trees in the first 4 days of the initiative. With the help of volunteers by the end of the year 120 000 saplings will have been planted in the New Forest of Sofia.
