Sofia Produces One-Third of the Country’s Exports

The Bulgarian capital will join the European cities network in support of start-up companies - Startup City Alliance Europe

During the Business Sofia 2018 – Digital Horizons conference at the end of April, the mayor of Sofia pointed out that the capital produces 40% of Bulgaria’s gross domestic product and one-third of the country’s exports and that in the last few years our capital has attracted a lot of investments. The forum was dedicated to the benefits and opportunities for the Bulgarian business in the implementation of a digital single market and the economic and financial programs of the European Union, and was organized by Sofia Municipal Privatisation and Investment Agency.

Information technologies are among the fastest growing industries in Sofia. The city has established itself as one of the most dynamic start-up environments in Central and Eastern Europe. Sofia Municipal Investment Agency works on projects and specific cases with over 80 Bulgarian and foreign companies and has managed to present Sofia’s potential as a business destination in countries of the European Union, South Korea and Scandinavia. The first major City2City project is a fact and Bulgarian entrepreneurs can now take advantage of the programme's terms and present their products in London and London companies can also open offices in Sofia. Sofiiska banitsa can now be bought in London. A similar project with Vienna will be realized soon.

In order to develop Sofia’s partnerships with other countries, Sofia Municipal Investment Agency works on Sofia joining the European cities network in support of start-up companies - SCALE (Startup City Alliance Europe), where a leading partner is the city of Amsterdam.
