The members of the Budget Committee of the Council of the EU visited Sofia Municipality so that they could learn more about some successfully carried out projects in Sofia that were funded by the EU. They were presented with information about the already realized main projects in the city as well as about the various opportunities for investment and business development in the Bulgarian capital. During the 2007-2013 programming period Sofia Municipality attracted nearly BGN 3 billion of EU funds for 89 projects. The biggest project in the capital that is funded by the EU is the metro whose third line is under construction. The other projects are mainly connected to the transport and water supply infrastructure, energy efficiency, ecology, educational infrastructure and public recreation areas. The members were informed about the advantages of Sofia in terms of investment and business development – its strategic geographic position, highly educated population and excellent opportunities for life, training, tourism and sports.
